ReflexologyReflexology is a none invasive, complementary therapy which aims to promote healthy well being and restore the body balance. Reflexology has developed from the ancient belief that there are different reflex points on the feet and hands which correspond to different parts of the body.
Used during pregnancy, it has numerous beneficial effects. It can be used throughout pregnancy, labour and postnatally and is adapted to reflect the specific stage of pregnancy. First TrimesterIn early pregnancy, reflexology can be used to relieve stress, anxiety and early symptoms, such as
sickness and tiredness. Second TrimesterAs pregnancy progresses, it is particularly useful in treating various symptoms:
- Sleeplessness - Backache - Constipation - Stress - Anxiety - Pelvic girdle pain. Third TrimesterTowards the end of your pregnancy and as your due date approaches, Reflexology is particularly useful. Although there is no scientific evidence to say that a treatment at this stage can induce labour, there is plenty of anecdotal evidence to say that natural labour is more likely occur. At this stage stress levels rise, producing large amounts of adrenaline and this is an Oxytocin inhibitor (Oxytocin is the hormone of labour.) Reflexology helps reduce stress levels and anxiety, therefore allowing the onset of natural labour. From my personal experiences, I have significant evidence of this happening!
